I fully admit up front that I feel weird doing this. But we’ve decided this is the best way to do this whole telling-people-what-we-need thing. We almost exclusively borrowed all our baby items with Chickpea, knowing that we would end up overseas eventually. Well, eventually is here, and we pretty much have nothing.

The thing is, we know we don’t need much. We’re kind-of minimalists anyway, but already having had one baby, we know full-well how companies and stores tell you you need things when, well, you just don’t. But there are some things that are indeed needed. I mean, the kid needs to wear something.

The real bummer is that in our country of service, things are both more cheaply made and more expensive than in the States. A cheap, off-brand car seat carrier is a minimum of $200 (from what we’ve found).

So below is a registry list from Babies R Us – but I’ve also included some disclaimers below, and they are relevant to what we’ve registered. Please take the time to read them – I hope they’ll help.

And thanks in advance for your interest an encouragement in our lives!

GENDER: boy

DUE DATE: January 1, 2008 (he may come earlier, though, as we’ll have to do another c-section)

DISCLAIMERS:

  • We are completely open to secondhand items! The only reason we registered at Babies R Us is because it was the easiest way to search for things and bookmark them in one place. So please don’t hesitate to check out baby secondhand stores, ebay, amazon, craigslist, or garage sales.
  • That said, please make sure the item is up to safety standards and the like.
  • Most items on the Babies R Us registry are not brand-specific. In other words, just because we registered for the “Carter’s 3-Pack Lap Pads- Animal,” that doesn’t mean we’re not perfectly happy with any set of lap pads in decent condition.
  • However, here are the items that are brand-specific, in which we would appreciate the actual brand: the Bumbo Baby Sitter, the Avent Bottle products, the BabyBjorn Carrier, the Graco Car Seat (it doesn’t have to be the same color or pattern, though), the Gerber NUK Pacifiers, and the Graco Pack ‘N Play accessories.
  • Finally, a word about the Pack-n-Play… We already have a Graco Pack N Play, but we don’t have the removable bassinet that we’d love to use for the early newborn stage when he’s in our room. So we went ahead and “registered” for the cheapest Grace Pack N Play available at Babies R Us, just to show you what we’d like to use. If you need a Pack N Play (minus the bassinet) and are up for buying a Graco one, then you can give us the bassinet feature. I know that’s random and weird, but there’s just really no need to haul an entire Pack N Play over here when we’ve got one in our closet. OR – if you have a Graco Pack N Play, and are willing to just lend us the bassinet feature for a few months, that’s great with us!
  • Speaking of which, we’re up for borrowing items again as well. We’d need to know exactly what is being borrowed, and you’d need to be okay with not having it until we return for the States for home assignment.

Thanks so much, to all of you, for caring for us over here! We are blessed.

Babies R Us registry – our state is Texas

sling patterns – I’d make these myself, if I had a sewing machine on me. But if you’re interested in making something, here’s a good idea!

Books for Garbanzo (and if you’re interested, here’s Chickpea’s ongoing list) – we LOVE books around here

We welcome toys for Garbanzo, since almost everything here is super-cheap plastic and expensive. However, we are of the quality-over-quantity mindset in this department, so please keep that in mind. And we’re not worry-wart parents, but here’s the list of latest toy recalls, and just for interest, here’s a list of companies whose toys are not made in China.
